WEEK 8 BLOGGING ASSIGNMENT:
In class, I talked some about being impressed with the weight the committeemen and Bob White in particular took upon themselves in this negotiation. Meaning that the realization that the decisions they were making would impact hundreds of thousands of lives seem to weigh heavily upon them. You can see the stress in their eyes, in their expressions, in their behavior.
For your blog this week, imagine yourself in the position of negotiating on behalf of hundreds, thousands, or even millions of people--maybe a similar situation to what you saw in Final Offer, or maybe you're working for the state department and negotiating a treaty with another country, or maybe you're negotiating a merger between two firms, or any sort of similar situation you can imagine. Anyway, for your blog, imagine yourself in this situation. Describe the situation, and describe how well you think you'd be at handling it. What sorts of considerations might you make in taking on such a task?
The situation is I am the middle man who is negotiating a multi million deal with Real Madrid and a new kit manufacturer. The stakes are very high, Adidas have been their kit maker for decades and have countless iconic kits that have provided the best moments we have seen in the sport. The contract has now ran out and i have been brought in to get a record breaking deal with a new brand. The move needs to relate to the identity of the club and the fans are the driving force, it needs to be something they can get behind and can produce more iconic moments.
With a number of brands at the table and also the club CEO, there are prestigious names on the table surrounded by myself. The club want me to secure the best deal possible. I think in the situation I can handle it well, you cannot let the occasion get to you and treat people as higher. In the situation, everyone is equal and worthy of the same resect and the main goal i need is to get the best outcome.
The main consideration I would make is the club culture and identity relating to the kit. The fans need a kit that reaps their history and they have always had that with adidas. Next, the contract length is important, this is a huge deal and we want long terms however, if it does not work out, we would need to get out of it so we need to make sure it is right.
